Local Government Authorised Persons Association in conjunction with Environmental Health Australia (South Australia) are proud to bring you Good Decision Making Training presented by KelledyJones and Norman Waterhouse Lawyers

This seminar will address the essential principles of decision-making as they relate to regulatory decisions made by council officers including:

  • Authority to act and acting for a proper purpose
  • Complying with statutory pre-conditions
  • Application of council policies
  • Natural justice including actual and perceived bias
  • Relevant and irrelevant considerations
  • The concept of ‘reasonableness’
  • Provision of reasons for decisions
  • Appeal/review rights and oversight bodies
  • Record keeping

Failure to abide by these principles can leave decisions open to successful challenge. It is therefore critical that officers charged with decision-making functions (including compliance officers, managers and directors) are aware of and properly apply these principles to ensure their decisions withstand scrutiny.

The sessions will be presented on an interactive basis with the use of examples relevant to regulatory officers’ roles and responsibilities and will include workshops to enable participants to apply the principles discussed to realistic scenarios.

There will be 4 sessions available being:

City of Onkaparinga - Noarlunga Office, Ramsay Place Noarlunga Centre - 7 May 2019 10am to 2pm
City of Playford Operations Centre - 12 Bishopstone Road Davoren Park - 28 March 2019 1pm to 5pm
